Subtitles now automatic in videos on Twitter
Recently, the accessibility of social medias has been a hot topic on Internet. More and more platforms are trying to make their content as accessible as possible. That's why Twitter has added an automatic captioning option for videos posted on the platform. Twitter added that this feature is only available for new videos, it's not possible to add subtitles on already posted videos.
This is an update we've been waiting for a while, as Twitter had been accused of not being accessible in 2020 due to the lack of captions in their voice Tweet functionality. For more information on this new feature, see the Moderator's Blog article.

Montreal, a growth leader in the information technology sector
With the pandemic, the information technology industry has surged in popularity. What's important to note is that in Montreal, this leap has been greater than anywhere else in the world. In fact, the employment rate in this sector has climbed 15.7% in the past year and a half. The metropolis now finds itself with 163,800 workers in the field, not too far behind Washington, which has 351,000.
For more information on these statistics, see the article in La Presse.

The ranking for the top Google Search of 2021 is out now
Like every year, Google has shared its list of search trends in 2021. It's a very interesting tool since it allows you to see what has been popular and thus use its subjects in the creation of content for the beginning of 2022. It's possible to classify the list by region, or internationally. Several categories are also offered, among others we can see: news, actors, music, sports teams, television show. In the most popular searches, we can see Squid Game, unsurprisingly.
Is this a tool that you will use on the job, or do you simply find it interesting? Be sure to check out the full Social Media Today article for more details!

Clearview AI: Facial recognition banned by Quebec
We all know facial recognition technology is a controversial topic. Many people are suspicious of it, while others are fascinated by it. Recently, we have been talking about it in the news, since the Quebec Information Access Commission banned the American company Clearview AI from using images taken in Quebec without consent. Clearview AI is a very prestigious company, internationally recognized for facial recognition. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police uses it, among others.
However, Quebec is not alone in trying to put obstacles in the way of the company. The UK recently fined the company for breaching privacy. For more details on the situation, see the full article in the Metro Journal.

You can now talk to santa with your Alexa!
For a more festive news, Amazon has released a new feature for Alexa, it's now possible to activate the “Hey Santa” function. This makes it possible to give Alexa a Santa Claus voice and make her sing songs, recite jokes and tell stories. It's also possible to ask him questions like “Have I been naughty or nice”. This is a very cool feature for kids at this time of year.
For more information on Alexa's “Hey Santa” feature, see the full article in The Verge.
